The switch allows the diver to switch from the primary air supply to an alternative air supply (bailout) if the primary air supply is too low or fails.
It is a diver-operated switch valve that switches the air supply from the main cylinder (switch in horizontal position) to the bailout (turn switch 90 degrees clockwise to the vertical position).
